A Life In is a series of conversations with intriguing and innovative minds. From acclaimed lawyers to preeminent scholars and policy makers, every guest has made an indelible impact in. These are the stories about their lives. The show is hosted by Russel Gardin.
Through an unexpected turn of events at a young age, I began writing for the Texas publication Free Press Houston (FPH) and covered the music scene in Houston, the nation's most diverse city. Shortly thereafter, I became the publication's Senior Music Editor where I oversaw the team of journalists covering arts and culture.
In the several years I was with FPH and others he also covered politics, interviewing figures from preeminent scholars to public figures—and even a presidential nominee.
My interests include the intersection of law and society, and especially as it pertains to national security, constitutional law, and civil rights. But I also enjoy fun things, too, including cycling around Texas, cooking, and studying cultures, especially Eastern European.
I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Houston in 2021 with a degree in English literature and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. My senior thesis, Manuscripts Don't Burn: Bulgakov As The Soviet Artist, Western Readers, And The Struggle For The Master And Margarita, explored the system of Soviet censorship and how the author Mikhail Bulgakov navigated publishing polemical works throughout his career in the early 20th century, ultimately becoming one of the defining voices of Soviet literature.
